This is how Individual Counseling works
People come to see me when painful life situations are troubling them. Individual Counseling can help them make significant changes in their life.
Very often, people are in pain because of issues from the past. They need to talk about these experiences with a caring therapist without the involvement of other family members.
Coming to see me for individual counseling allows this flexibility. It is very important, that they
have an opportunity and a safe place to be really listened to and understood.

How long does Individual Counseling take?
My approach is a solution oriented approach. Together we look at your past history in the areas we feel need our attention. But that does not mean we focus only on the past. Your background, however, may certainly shed light on current issues, feelings, behaviors, reactions, preferences, and fears.
Understanding your past gives empowerment today.
Finding a way out of pain now is always the main focus of solution oriented therapy, so it can be brief. Some people may need only one session; others, more, some may need long term therapy. You are always in charge of deciding how many sessions you want and if you want an extended session.
Goal Setting
You will want to decide what is not working in your life today as you wish it were. There are times when people are really hurting and this is about all they can decide.
My job is to help you change those wishes into small, do-able goals. Therapy helps you recognize certain themes and patterns, viewing things from a slightly differnt perspective, while connecting up seemingly unrelated events either in the past or present that may be important. |
